Ghaith Moufarege

Ghaith Moufarege is a Senior Sustainability Engineer at EcoConsulting since 2013 working on BREEAM and LEED assessments, as well as other eco-building services. He has led or been involved in over 40 projects in Lebanon and abroad ranging from small residential houses to large developments, comprising BREEAM Very Good and LEED Platinum assessments. In his previous position, Ghaith was managing ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 and LEED certifications for Oger International Beirut office. In parallel, Ghaith is also in the management team of Liban Trek, the first ecotourism company in Lebanon (founded in 1997), specialized in tailored-made hiking, trekking, and cultural tours. He is in charge of the business development of the company. Meet him on a hiking trail! Ghaith holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental & Chemical Engineering from the “Ecole supérieure de chimieorganique et minérale” – France – and is a LEED Accredited Professional.

Mohamad Mortada

After completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture in 2015, from the Lebanese American University, Mohamad began working at EcoConsulting as a Sustainable Design Architect in 2016. He specializes in sustainable design and green building certifications, with over seven years of practical experience in the field. He is also a certified Circular Economy Specialist from the Circular Economy Alliance.

Mohamad is an accredited LEED Green Associate and has worked on more than 30 green certified (LEED or BREEAM) and uncertified projects and eco-building competitions. His work involves providing detailed advice on energy-efficiency, insulation, low-impact materials, resource efficiency, and health & well-being in buildings. He is also a certified Construction Product Life Cycle Assessment Specialist.

Mohamed has been involved in developing content for Environmental Awareness & Climate Action education curriculum for Youth, both for UNDP and UNICEF. He is also a lecturer at the Circular Hub, and has been involved in delivering numerous trainings, workshops and talks related to green buildings, climate change, circular materials, and sustainability.

-          Overview of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification in the US,

-          Comparison between BREEAM and LEED,

-          Overview of the ARZ for offices certification in Lebanon

The intent, benefits, and procedures on how to apply for the green loans currently available in Lebanon for certified and non-certified projects will be presented, covering:

-            The NEEREA & LEA loans financed by the Central Bank of Lebanon (BDL)

-            The LEEREFF loan developed by the European Investment Bank (EIB), the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Central Bank (BDL)

-            The GEFF loan financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)
